STATEMENTS OF APPRECIATION
FOR A WEDDING CEREMONY
(addition)

The Statements of Appreciation give the Bride and Groom a chance to express what they love about one another. In essence, it proclaims what each partner sees in the other, and why they are choosing this person to wed.

All of these are basically Romantic selections. Secular selections have no references to God or any specific deities, while Spiritual selections may mention God, spirituality, specific deities, or some combination of those topics.

The Statements of Appreciation is an Element that you can add to the Classic Ceremonies. Please remember that you can use these selections "as is" or change the wording in whatever way you wish to better suit your ceremony.

(SECULAR ROMANTIC - A POEM READ ALTERNATELY: Love by Roy Croft )
5. Bride:
I love you,
Not only for what you are,
But for what I am
When I am with you.
Groom:
I love you
Not only for what
You have made of yourself
But for what you are making of me.
Bride:
I love you
For the part of me
That you bring out.
I love you
For putting your hand
Into my heaped up heart
And passing over
All the foolish weak things
That you can't help
Seeing, dimly there,
And for drawing out
Into the light
All the beautiful belongings
That no one else has looked
Quite far enough to find.
Groom:
I love you because you
Are helping me to make
Of the lumber of my life,
Not a tavern,
But a temple;
Out of the works
Of my every day,
Not a reproach
But a song.
Bride:
I love you
Because you have done
More than any creed
Could have done
To make me happy.
You have done it without a touch,
Without a word
Without a sign.
You have done it
By being yourself.
Both:
Perhaps that is what being a friend means after all.
